Sequeira Tabbed a Finalist for John Olerud Award

LUBBOCK, Texas – Oral Roberts baseball senior Anthony Sequeira has been named one of three finalists for the John Olerud Award, announced the College Baseball Hall of Fame Thursday. Sequeira joins Brendan McKay (Louisville) and Reid Love (East Carolina).

"These three players exemplify what the John Olerud Award is all about, excelling not only at multiple positions but being a player their teammates can count on to lead the way," Olerud Award co-chairman George Watson said. "All three have had outstanding seasons in leading their teams to the postseason and distinguishing themselves among the best players in the country."

The dual-threat man has led the team offensively with 11 home runs to go along with a .341 batting average. After proving himself as an offensive threat, the Petaluma, Calif. native has also excelled on the mound for the Golden Eagles, leading the conference with 11 saves. Sequeira boasts an ERA of 1.38 in 32.2 innings of work. He finished the year in the top 10 in The Summit League in hits (73), doubles (20) and walks (29).

Wednesday, Sequeira was the first Golden Eagle to come off the draft board after being taken in the by the Phillies in the 23rd round (Pick: 684) of the 2015 MLB First Year Player Draft.

Sequeira became the first Golden Eagles to earn All-America honors since the 2013 season when Alex Gonzalez earned the award. Sequeira was also named The Summit League Player of the Year honors while also being name to the all-League First Team as utility player and relief pitcher.

The Olerud Award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The award will be presented as part of the Hall of Fame's Night of Champions celebration, June 28-29 in Lubbock.
