2014-15 #TopORUMoments; #2 – Baseball Sweeps Summit League Titles

TULSA, Okla. – Dominant from early in the season until the end, including separate win streak of nine games and eight games, the Oral Roberts baseball team swept The Summit League Regular Season and Tournament Championships, returning to the NCAA Tournament once again.

It was the 16th straight trip to the NCAA Tournament as part of the Summit League after ORU rolled through the tournament with three-straight wins. In what proved to be the championship game, ORU got 7.1 innings of shutout ball from freshman pitcher Bryce Howe. The offense aided his cause putting six runs on the board for a 6-0 win. The three straight wins in the tournament moved ORU's overall record in the Summit League Tournament to 52-2 all-time.

During the regular season, ORU clinched the title with a series to go, and ended up winning by a six-game margin after going 25-5 in league play.  ORU finished the season 41-16 and picked up plenty of individual honors along the way.

The Golden Eagles swept The Summit League's postseason awards with Anthony Sequeira earning Player of the Year, Xavier Altamirano earning Pitcher of the Year, Matt Whatley was named Newcomer of the Year and Ryan Folmar earned Coach of the Year. Additionally, Sequeira (second team) and Whatley (freshman) were named All-Americans by Louisville Slugger and were each named to the Stillwater Regional All-Tournament team. Derrian James picked up Academic All-League honors and the Golden Eagles had five players taken in the 2015 MLB draft.

This is the 14th of 15 editions of the #TopORUMoments from 2014-15 as selected by the ORU Media Relations Department and a social media poll.
