ORU tabbed second in Summit League; Omaha picked to repeat

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Oral Roberts University baseball team has been tabbed to finish second behind Omaha in the Summit League Preseason Coaches poll, announced Thursday.

ORU and UNO each received three first place votes, with the Mavs receiving 23 total points to the Golden Eagles' 21 points. South Dakota State was picked third with 17 points and North Dakota State received 15 points for fourth, while Western Illinois (8) and IPFW (6) rounded out the poll in the fifth and sixth spots respectively.

The Golden Eagles make their return to the Summit League after two seasons in the Southland Conference. In their previous 15 year stint in the Summit League (1998-2012), the Golden Eagles won 15 consecutive league tournament championships.

UNO is the two-time defending regular season champion, but has not been eligible for postseason play due to NCAA Division I transition regulations. The Mavs are in their final season of NCAA Division I reclassification and are ineligible for the postseason in 2015.

Representing the league last season in the NCAA tournament was NDSU after winning its first Summit League Tournament Championship.

The Golden Eagles open the season at home February 13 against Memphis. For more information and updates about ORU baseball, following @ORUBaseball on Twitter and visit ORUAthletics.com.
