Golden Eagle Golf Picked Second in Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Oral Roberts men's golf team, last season's Summit League runner-up, was picked second in the preseason poll followed by eight-time league champion Western Illinois in third. South Dakota State was picked to win the league as the Jackrabbits collected four first-place votes while the Golden Eagles accumulated three and the Fighting Leathernecks had two.

#SummitMGF Notes

  • South Dakota State was picked as the preseason favorite for the first time in school history. The Jackrabbits have finished third in The Summit League Tournament the last three years and a total of four times.
  • A total of six All-Summit League performers return, including four of the five second teamers.
  • Denver leads the way with four all-league golfers returning in first team selections Chris Korte and Petter Mikalsen and second team honorees Arti Edelman and Jake Kelley.
  • IUPUI's Rylan Porter and South Dakota State's Grant Smith are the other returning second-team selections.
  • South Dakota's Cody Seal is the lone All-Tournament Team selection returning.
  • IUPUI golfers have captured the last two Championship MVP honors (2014 – Rob van de Vin; 2015 – Jose Pablo Segurola).
  • Two golfers captured individual titles during the fall season. IUPUI's Austin Winings took first in the Dayton Flyer Invitational, while South Dakota's won the Derek Dolenc Invitational.
  • Entering the spring season, Western Illinois has the league's lowest team stroke average (292.7), while IUPUI's Porter (72.3) is tops as an individual.

#SummitMGF Schedule Notes

  • The 2016 spring season begins Jan. 29 as Denver and South Dakota State are participating in the Arizona Intercollegiate. 
  • The Pioneers and Jackrabbits will also wrap-up the regular season on April 17, at the Hawkeye Invitational.
  • All nine Summit League teams will travel to Newton, Kan., from May 1-3 for The Summit League Championship at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club.
