Matthew Rogers Awarded Third Academic All-League Honor

TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts University men's soccer student-athlete, Matthew Rogers, earned his third Academic All-League honor by The Summit League for his efforts in the classroom and on the playing field.

With the conclusion of the 2016 men's soccer season, The Summit League has announced its Academic All-League Team as voted on by the institution faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. A total of 12 student-athletes were named to the team and honored for their academic and athletic performances this season.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.  The men's soccer all-league team is made up of the 11 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.

Tournament champion and regular season co-champion Denver, along with Fort Wayne and IUPUI each had two selections while Eastern Illinois, Oral Roberts and Western Illinois each received one honor. All seven teams were represented by at least one student-athlete on the team.

Two student-athletes, Moulton and ORU's Matthew Rogers, made their third straight appearance on the prestigious team, while Ghitis, DU's Sam Hamilton and WIU's Fernando Pacheco all earned their second consecutive honor.

A senior from Mexico City, Mexico, Rogers played in all 18 games this season for the Golden Eagles. As a forward, he scored five goals off of 12 shots on goal and tallied 11 points. He will graduate this spring with a 3.54 GPA and a degree in Business Administration.
