TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts men's soccer team shutout Fort Wayne 5-0 in the Summit League opener Saturday evening at the Case Soccer Complex.
Jose Castro started the game off quickly for the Golden Eagles. Castro scored from 18 yards out to give ORU a 1-0 lead 93 seconds in to the match. He rebounded the ball off a goalkeeper kick out and put it in the back of the net for his first goal of the season. His goal was unassisted.
In the second half, Corey Cantor scored his third goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute. Cantor scored from 25 yards out on a free kick from left to right. His goal was unassisted.
Junior Chavez scored his second goal of the season in the 54th minute and put ORU up 3-0 when he took the ball through defenders on the right side and shot from 15 yards out. Chavez's goal was unassisted.
In the 64th minute, Dante Brigida scored his third goal of the season when he received a quick free kick from Jose Castro on the right side and connected with the goal from 15 yards out to give ORU a 4-0 lead. Castro was credited with his second assist of the season.
Dante Brigida scored his second goal of the night and his fourth goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead in the 71st minute when he received a pass from Junior Chavez from the right side and scored from six yards out. Chavez was credited with his first assist of the season.
