TULSA, Okla. – The Summit League 4x400m championship record stood for more than 10 years, but it would be bested in 2017 as the Oral Roberts relay team smashed the old record by nearly four full seconds on February 25, 2017.
Aobakwe Malau, D'Khari Hicks, Omeiza Akerele and Reinhard Ndlovu combined to run 3:11.27 to claim the championship, breaking the old record of 3:15.70 set by the Golden Eagles in 2005. It was one of four event championships on the final day of The Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships. Kirsten Burnett (triple jump), Jaden Purnell (triple jump) and Hicks (400m) also claimed gold medals.
