Women’s Basketball Welcomes New Signee

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team and Head Coach Misti Cussen announced the addition of Erika Ankney to the 2018-19 squad during the 2017 early signing period.

Erika Ankney is a 5-foot-8 point guard from Harrah High School in Harrah, Oklahoma. Playing under head coach Jeff Mahoney, Ankney averaged 10 points per game her sophomore year and 11.4 points her junior year. She helped lead Harrah to the 2016 Oklahoma Class 4A state runner-up and the 2017 Oklahoma Class 4A state championship. She was named to both the 2016 and 2017 All-State Tournament Teams.

"We can't wait to get Erika to Tulsa with us this coming summer, but we are excited for her senior year at Harrah too," ORU Head Coach Misti Cussen said. "She is coming to ORU from an outstanding high school program, and they will be looking to repeat as state champions this year. Erika's drive and passion are two of my favorite things about her. She is going to have fantastic career here at ORU."

Ankney is a dual sport athlete running cross country and track as well as playing basketball at Harrah High School. She was recruited by Harding, Incarnate Word, Lindenwood, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, Missouri State, Omaha, Stephen F. Austin, UMKC and others. Her hobbies are running, working out and spending time with friends.

"I chose ORU because it is a unique school that will challenge me to be the best person I can be and help me grow spiritually, physically and emotionally" Ankney said. 

The Golden Eagles will open the 2017-18 regular season on the road at Big 12 opponent TCU on Saturday, November 11 at Ed & Rae Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

Personal: Daughter of Eric and Paula Ankney… Favorite pro team is the Boston Celtics and favorite pro athlete is Rajon Rondo … She is undecided in her major at this time … Was recruited by Harding, Incarnate Word, Lindenwood, Little Rock, Louisiana-Monroe, Missouri State, Omaha, Stephen F. Austin and UMKC.
