TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University volleyball team announced its 2016 schedule Thursday as it renews regional rivalries and features a home match against SEC foe Arkansas.
The Golden Eagles open the 2016 season at the prestigious Nike Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma. ORU will open against the Sooners Friday, August 26, before Saturday matches against UMKC and UTEP.
Another regional rivalry that will be renewed September 2, will be at the Central Arkansas Tournament as the Golden Eagles face the Sugar Bears, Alcorn State and Louisiana Monroe. The following weekend ORU will again face a pair of Southland Conference teams, Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian at the Texas Tech Invitational.
ORU closes its tournament schedule against cross-town rival Tulsa on Friday, September 16 at the Reynolds Center. Tournament action will conclude on Saturday on the north side of Tulsa against Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State.
The Golden Eagles will host Arkansas Tuesday, September 20, for the first time since the Razorbacks visited Tulsa in 2010. In the last meeting however with the Razorbacks, ORU took an exciting 3-2 win at Fayetteville in 2014.
The 2016 Summit League slate will continue to be a challenge as ORU will host two-time defending league champ Denver on October 11 and visit the Pioneers November 4. League upstart Omaha who raced to the tournament championship match last season will open home conference action for the Golden Eagles on October 2 at 1:30 p.m. inside the Aerobics Center.
