LINCOLN, Neb. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team is back on the road for another difficult weekend tournament at the Ameritas Players Challenge hosted by the University of Nebraska Sept. 1-2. The Golden Eagles open the event Friday morning at 10 a.m. against Saint Mary's before a primetime matchup with the nationally-ranked Huskers at 7:30 p.m. ORU closes the trip to the Devaney Center facing UMBC at 11 a.m.

Opening Serve

•ORU is back on the court following a challenging start to the 2017 campaign dropping three matches at the Purdue Mortar Board Premiere last weekend to No. 25 Purdue, Alabama and Cleveland State.

•The Golden Eagles have never met the Gaels of Saint Mary's or the Retrievers of UMBC, but hold a 1-6 record when facing Nebraska. It will be the fifth all-time matchup against a nationally-ranked Huskers squad as they sit No. 12 in the AVCA Coaches' Poll as the 2016 squad reached the NCAA Championship semifinals.

Laura Milos continued to show her offensive abilities against top programs after breaking The Summit League's single-season kill record a season ago totaling 631, ranking fourth in the NCAA. The Porec, Croatia, native led ORU in all three matches at Purdue posting 55 kills, which ranks 11th in the country following opening weekend.

•Setters Lucija Bojanjac and Bria Bergman split time in West Lafayette with Bergman leading the charge with 59 assists, while Bojanjac added 48 as she nears the all-time record at ORU.

•Newcomer CeCe Madison immediately made an impact for the Golden Eagles from the outside as the sophomore reached double-figure kills in all three matches over the weekend. A native of Midlothian, Texas, she finished with 37 kills (3.36 kills per set) and added three service aces to tie with Milos for the team lead.

•ORU returned all six starters as well as its libero from a 2016 squad that advanced to the conference tournament semifinals for the first time in The Summit League since 2011. ORU entered 2017 third in the league's preseason coaches' poll behind three-time defending champion Denver and South Dakota.

•The Golden Eagles have reached the conference tournament each of the last five seasons. They were eliminated in the semifinals by host Denver in 2016.

•ORU closed 2016 ranked second of 329 teams in the country hitting 224 service aces, only two behind the nation's leader. The Golden Eagles also were second in the NCAA with 1.93 aces per set.

•Head Coach Sheera Sirola, ORU's all-time winningest coach, welcomed seven newcomers to the lineup, including two transfers (CeCe Madison, Lara Picht). Five freshmen began their collegiate careers in Morgan Blomquist, Victoria Mayes, Mya King, Sarah Thiessen and Bailey White. Blomquist totaled 11 kills, while starting three times in her debut for ORU.
