Golden Eagles Land Summit League Volleyball Postseason Honors

Golden Eagles Land Summit League Volleyball Postseason Honors

DENVER, Colo. – Three members of the Oral Roberts volleyball team were honored with Summit League postseason awards Thursday as voted on by the league's head coaches. Laura Milos was selected as the Player of the Year and joined CeCe Madison in garnering All-Summit League First Team accolades, while Morgan Blomquist landed on the All-Freshman Team for 2017.

Milos put together another of the conference's best offensive seasons to date and added to an already impressive career, earning four Offensive Player of the Week awards and a national Player of the Week honor on Oct. 3 by AVCA and Volleymob. The Porec, Croatia, native jumped to No. 2 all-time in the Summit League record books with 2,210 career kills and is one of two players in ORU history to record 2,000-plus kills and 1,000-plus digs after Ori Zuzic accomplished the feat in 2006.

Milos led the league in four statistical categories (kills, kills per set, aces, aces per set) for the third-consecutive year and currently holds the third-best kills per set and aces per set marks in the NCAA (5.31 and 0.56, respectively). The senior is just the second player in school history to be named first-team all-conference four times in a career (Patricia Menezes, 1999-02) earning ORU's eighth player of the year award.

Madison immediately made in impact in the Golden Eagles' lineup and started every match, until a late-season injury, as she claimed a spot on the all-conference first team. The sophomore still finished sixth in The Summit League with 267 kills, including a season-high 17 at South Dakota, and ranked fifth averaging 3.18 kills per set. Her versatility gave ORU the best offensive duo in the conference with 761 total kills between Madison and Milos. A native of Midlothian, Texas, she led the team in kills five different matches and posted seven double-doubles.

With injuries in the middle, Blomquist took advantage of the opportunity to jump into the starting lineup opening weekend and never relinquished that role on her way to Summit League All-Freshman Team honors. The Plano, Texas, product closed the regular season 11th in total blocks in the conference with 64, including a season best of five against Western Illinois, and reached nine kills on four separate occasions. She is the 14th player to be named to the all-freshman team for the Golden Eagles.
