DENTON, Texas – Oral Roberts volleyball makes its 16th postseason appearance, and first since 2006, when it opens play in the 2017 National Invitational Volleyball Championship Thursday night. The Golden Eagles face the highest ranked team in the field, North Texas (No. 47 RPI) at 7 p.m. inside the North Texas Volleyball Center.
•After falling in The Summit League Championship finals at Denver, the Golden Eagles earned an invite into the 2017 NIVC. ORU takes on the site host, North Texas, Thursday night with the winner to play either TCU or Wyoming in the second round Friday night at the North Texas Volleyball Center.
•The Golden Eagles are making their 16th postseason appearance in program history and first-ever trip to the NIVC as they return to a postseason tournament since winning The Summit League Championship in 2006. ORU has a 42-23 all-time record in the postseason with its last win coming in the 1997 NCAA Tournament first round over No. 10 Arizona in five sets.
•Laura Milos, the Oct. 3 National Player of the Week by Sports Imports/AVCA and VolleyMob, ranks fourth in the NCAA with 551 total kills and third at 5.40 kills per set. The senior also is third in the country averaging 0.54 service aces per set and recently became the 18th player in the NCAA since 2004 to record 2,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career needing 38 to break ORU's all-time record for kills.
•Setter Lucija Bojanjac, ORU's all-time assists leader, moved up to eighth in The Summit League's career assists leaders and totaled 568 this season (5.57 per set) and 4,192 in her tenure. Bria Bergman is close behind the senior adding 549 assists (5.38 per set) helping the Golden Eagles rank 53rd in the nation at 12.87 assists per set.
•ORU has won 16 of 22 meetings with North Texas in the all-time series, with the most recent matchup coming in 2015, where the Mean Green won 3-1 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the Tulsa Invitational. The Golden Eagles and Cowgirls faced each other in the ORU Invitational in September where Wyoming won in five sets in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. ORU and TCU have played only once with the Golden Eagles winning 3-0 in the opening match of the 1996 season.
