TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts head volleyball coach Sheera Sirola announced Sakira LaCour (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and Laura Shoopman (Salem, Wisconsin) each signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Golden Eagles for the 2019 season.
"Both of these women are going to be tremendous assets to our team," said Sirola. "We are looking forward to working with them next year as they are great kids with a lot of potential. Sakira is as quick as lighting at the net and Laura generates a ton of power with a heavy arm swing."
LaCour will join the program from Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where she played two seasons on the varsity squad. She helped the Storm reach the state tournament and tallied 11 kills in the match on the big stage. The 6-0 middle blocker also played competitively for the Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball Club (ARVC).
Shoopman makes the trip to ORU after a decorated four-year prep career capped with AVCA/Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention honors in her senior season at Westosha Central High School. The 6-2 outside hitter finished her time with the Falcons totaling 1,623 kills, ranking second in school history. She holds two of the top four single-season records for kills with 503 and 537 and was a three-time all-state selection in Wisconsin. Shoopman also ranks in the top 10 in career digs (fifth), service aces (seventh) and blocks (ninth) in WCHS history.
