TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University Athletic Department announced the completion of fundraising for phase one of the Bernis Duke Tennis Center capital campaign Friday morning ahead of schedule.
The goal of $24,000 has been surpassed in record time due to generous donors and supporters of ORU tennis who believe in the importance of first-class facilities for ORU student-athletes.
Phase one includes funding for permanent umpire chairs and team benches along with other equipment needed for use during matches and team practices at the brand new facility. A donor plaque and a separate courtside plaque to honor Coach Duke are also in production.
"I'm excited to complete phase one and would like to thank everyone who has donated and helped with this project," ORU Men's Tennis Head Coach Mark Milner said. "We are now able to purchase essential equipment for the courts. Coach Duke gave so much of himself to ORU and ORU tennis it's only fitting that the tennis center be named after him."
Phase two of the capital campaign, with a $61,000 goal, has begun. The second phase of the Bernis Duke Tennis Center will include a scoreboard, internet equipment to be used for player instruction and to stream ORU tennis matches worldwide.
