Torve played baseball for three seasons at ORU, earning 2nd-team All-American honors in 1981. He was a career .349 hitter, with 17 home runs and 108 RBI. He ended his ORU career fourth in batting average. Torve earned a spot on the 1981 United States Baseball Federation All-Star team. Torve was drafted in the second round of the 1981 Major League draft by San Francisco and played three seasons as an infielder for the Twins and Mets.
