Played two seasons for Aric Thomas at Eastern State College in Wilburton, Okla. … helped the Mountaineers to a No. 9 national ranking, a Region 2 championship and a 37-22 overall record … served as the Mountaineers’ closer in 2010, going 4-0 with four saves and a 1.35 ERA in 15 relief appearances … struck out 27 batters and walked just seven in 33.1 innings … earned second-team all-region honors as a pitcher … also started 33 games at catcher, batting just .202-1-13 but was named Rawlings Region II Defensive Player of the Year and to the Rawlings Gold Glove team as the region’s top defensive catcher … high school and junior college teammate of fellow signee Tyler Sparks.
