James Garners Academic All-League Honors

ELMHURT, Ill. - The Summit League has announced its Academic All-League Team as voted on by each institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information director.  A total of nine student-athletes were named to the team and honored for their academic and athletic performances this season.

Senior outfielder Derrian James was the lone Golden Eagle to earn the accolade. A business major with a 3.40 GPA, James was named The Summit League Tournament MVP after leading the Golden Eagles to the league tournament and regular season titles. He hit .342 on the year, including a .364 clip in league play. A first team all-league selection, James had 16 multi-hit games and an 11-game hitting streak during the season.

To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions, except pitchers in baseball and softball who must have participated in 20 percent of their team's total contests.  The baseball all-league team is made up of the nine student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
