Baseball Adds Todd George as Volunteer Assistant

TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts Baseball head coach Ryan Folmar has announced the hiring of Todd George as the program's volunteer assistant coach. George brings a wealth of experience with a résumé that includes coaching stints at Oklahoma Baptist, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Seminole State College.

"We are very fortunate to have someone with Todd's experience and knowledge join our staff," head coach Ryan Folmar said. "He brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the ballpark every day and that fits perfectly into the way we do things at ORU."

George joins ORU after serving the last year as interim an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Central Oklahoma before taking on the interim head coaching role during the summer. At UCO, George oversaw practices, scheduling and transportation while leading the Broncho's recruiting efforts.

George helped Seminole to a 41-18 record in 2014 and directed a pitching staff that ranked third in the country in strikeouts per game (8.5) and total strikeouts with 500 in 462.1 innings.

An Oklahoma City native, George played two years at Seminole and was a member of the Trojans' 1999 NJCAA World Series team before spending one year each at Texas-Arlington and Oklahoma Baptist.  He spent several years in professional baseball playing for the Montreal Expos organization and was a three-time All-Star for the Independent League Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

George started his coaching career OBU, serving as pitching coach and junior varsity head coach from 2002-06.  Five OBU players he coached went on to sign professional contracts.

George took over as pitching coach at Southwestern Oklahoma in 2011.  The Bulldogs lowered their team earned run average from 7.74 in 2010 to 3.50 by George's final season in 2013, with that year's pitching staff leading the Great American Conference while having three All-GAC selections and a ninth-round pick in the Major League Baseball draft.
