Location: Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Sewell-Thomas Stadium)
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Oral Roberts baseball used a big sixth inning to pull off a weekend sweep at Alabama winning 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Sam Grellner came through offensively going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, including the tying run in the fifth, scoring from second base on an infield singlesliding headfirst into home plate. The effort kick-started ORU into five-unanswered runs to take control of the game aided by a three-run sixth inning.
The Golden Eagles gave up nine hits and allowed base runners in all but the eighth inning, but limited the Crimson Tide to only two runs in the series finale. Miguel Ausua battled from the opening pitch to post his second victory in as many starts this season holding Alabama to one run over six innings, while the bullpen closed out the final three innings.
Quote of the Game
"I thought we got really good work on the mound and I thought that was the difference. I don't think Miguel had his best stuff, but man he really competed for us and made some pitches when he needed to; that was key. We got good bullpen work again, I thought Lovvorn was sharp, I thought Henson was sharp, I thought Stout came out in the ninth inning and he was sharp. We were really good on the mound all day long and that was the difference." – Head Coach Ryan Folmar
Base running proved critical for the Golden Eagles in turning the game around starting with Grellner scoring from second base on Nick Rotola's, two-out infield single. After hitting the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth, Grellner came around to score from first base on Harrison Smith's double in what turned out to be the winning run.
