FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Harrison Smith launched a solo home run leading off the third inning to get the Oral Roberts baseball team on the board early before Fort Wayne rallied back scoring twice in the ninth in a 3-2 loss on the road Thursday at Mastodon Field.

The Golden Eagles let a two-run advantage slip away after the Mastodons scored a run in the sixth with the bases loaded. Fort Wayne then took advantage of two errors in the final frame to plate a pair of unearned markers.

ORU had four quality innings of work from both Miguel Ausua and Justin McGregor as the duo combined to limit Fort Wayne to six hits and one run over eight innings.

Nick Rotola recorded three hits and a run scored on the afternoon, while Spencer Henson continued his torrid pace against opposing pitchers. The sophomore registered a pair of infield singles and added to his Summit League-leading RBI total in the third with his 47th of the season.

Quotes of the Day

"We didn't do enough offensively throughout the game there. It was going to be tough to score and we knew that. The bad part is we played terrible defensively. I thought we pitched well enough to get it done, but the other two phases were not good enough." – Head Coach Ryan Folmar

Turning Point

ORU could not put away the home side in the ninth as the Mastodons led the inning with a bloop single to center. An error on a sacrifice bunt attempt allowed the next batter to reach before another bunt moved the pair into scoring position. A high chopper brought home the tying run, but it was overthrown at first giving Fort Wayne the winning run.
