TULSA, Okla.- Like teams across America, the Oral Roberts University men's basketball team utilized an earlier start date and held its first official practice on Monday afternoon at the Mabee Center.
ORU returns two starters (Shawn Glover and Korey Billbury) from last year's 20-15 team that finished third in the Southland Conference but made a postseason run to the quarterfinals of the CIT.
Eight new faces could also see the court for ORU, but the Golden Eagles aren't without experience. In addition to the two returning starters, D.J. Jackson, Brandon Conley and Jorden Kaufman all return for their sophomore seasons, and ORU will also benefit from the addition Obi Emegano and Corbin Byford, both of whom redshirted last season.
"It's early. It doesn't feel like we should be practicing here the last day of September," said Coach Scott Sutton. "The first week, everyone is excited and they are going to practice hard and have enthusiasm. I thought some of the new newcomers were further along than I anticipated as far as doing some of the things we put in today."
The 2013-14 edition of Golden Eagle basketball will begin on November 2 with an exhibition contest against Northwood at 6 p.m. inside the Mabee Center. The regular season will begin across town on November 10 as the Golden Eagles face Tulsa at 5:05 p.m.
