TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa World Sports Writer Jimmie Tramel has been named the Oklahoma Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Oklahoma State University radio voice Dave Hunzikerwas named Oklahoma Sportscaster of the Year.
It's the first NSSA honor for Tramel and Hunziker.
Tramel, who has been with the World since 1989, is a Locust Grove High School and Northeastern State graduate.
He has covered a variety of topics for the World, but currently is the beat writer for Oklahoma State football and Oral Roberts men's basketball.
Finalists for the award were nominated by NSSA members.
Sports Illustrated's Peter King was named National Sportswriter of the Year for the third time in four years.
Longtime radio and TV voice Marv Albert and ESPN's Rick Reilly were named to the NSSA Hall of Fame.
