TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2015 season Friday night at the Case Soccer Complex, defeating Incarnate Word, 1-0.
Junior Matthew Rogers played hero in the match after connecting on a penalty kick just 1:34 into the match after the Cardinal (1-1) were called for a hand ball inside the box. It was Rogers' first goal of the season.
The rest of the match was a much different story than what the team experienced to open the year in San Antonio. A possession attack with few real chances for either team.
ORU's aggressive defense held the Cardinals just four shots on goal the whole night, while ORU struck for just five shots on net as both teams piled up fouls. In total, five cards were issued in the match including a red card on UIW's Dylan Kelly who was ejected from the match with nearly 20 minutes remaining.
Rogers scored a PK in the second minute of action to give the Golden Eagles the lead. It marked the first goal of the season through three games for ORU.
