TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts men's soccer team has announced the addition of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville to the 2017 schedule.
The Golden Eagles will travel to face the Cougars on Saturday, September 30 at 7 p.m. in Edwardsville, Illinois. The match was added due to the recent change in Summit League opponents with IUPUI moving to the Horizon League. The match with IUPUI was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 30. This will be the first time since 1997 that ORU and IUPUI will not play a regular season game.
This will be the first time since 2010 that ORU and SIUE will square off on the soccer field. The two teams have met three times overall with the last meeting ending in a 0-0 tie. The Golden Eagles are 0-1-2 all-time against the Cougars and all three games have been played at Edwardsville.
"We are excited to add another excellent game this late," Head Coach Ryan Bush said. "SIUE was in the national tournament a year ago and was at the top of the Missouri Valley every year. We want our schedule to prepare us for a tough conference slate and beyond. This game does just that."
SIUE finished 10-5-7 overall last season and 4-1-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Cougars won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship and competed in the NCAA Tournament. SIUE went 0-1-2 with draws against Michigan State and Butler and a 2-1 loss against Wake Forest in the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars recently made the jump to the Mid-American Conference in June of 2017 and will compete in the MAC for the 2017 season.
