Golden Eagles Win 2-1 in Exhibition Opener over USAO

TULSA, Okla. – The ORU men's soccer team defeated USAO 2-1 in the team's exhibition opener Tuesday evening at the Case Soccer Complex.

The Golden Eagles struck first minutes before the first half ended. Christos Smirlis scored in the 42nd minute after receiving a cross inside the box from Max Roetcisoender and scoring from the right side to give ORU a 1-0 advantage going in to halftime.

The lone USAO goal was an own goal scored by ORU in the 51st minute of play in the second half.

Sophomore midfielder, Mark Omokaro, scored the game winning goal for the Golden Eagles in the 64th minute to give ORU a 2-1 lead. Omokaro took a pass from Alex Torres and scored from left to right inside the goalie box.

- ORU and USAO each had nine shots in the game. The Drovers had four on goal, while the Golden Eagles had eight.

- Miles Motakef came in and recorded 53 minutes of playing time in his first collegiate game and made six saves. Motakef's biggest save of the night came in the 66th minute when he deflected a USAO penalty kick keeping the Golden Eagles' lead.

- Between the two teams there were 28 fouls. Each team had a player receive a yellow card.
