ORU Quartet Earns All-Summit League Honors

TULSA, Okla. – Freshman Barnabas Koncz was named Newcomer of the Year Thursday to highlight postseason honors for the Oral Roberts men's tennis team as three others were named to the All-Summit Team announced by the league office Thursday night.

Koncz, who was also tabbed to the All-Summit Team, was joined by Jan Pehnec, Amar Saletovic and Michael Sosnowski. The four players for ORU are the most All-Summit Team selections for the Golden Eagles since the league combined first and second team accolades in 2010.

A native of Pecs, Hungary, Koncz played most of the season at No. 1 singles going 6-6 and also 4-1 at No. 2 singles. Overall, Koncz won 12 matches in singles action and was 3-2 in Summit League play and also earned nine wins in doubles. He is the first ORU player to win Newcomer of the Year since Oleksandr Kotsuik was named Newcomer and Player of the Year in 2008.

Pehnec was a two-time Summit League Player of the Week award winner and finished 4-1 in Summit League singles and was second on the team with 13 wins. A native of Zagrab, Croatia, Pehnec played at No.1 doubles most of the season going 7-9.

Sosnowski won a team high 14 singles matches and finished a perfect 4-0 in Summit League action. The junior from Denver went 9-5 at no. 5 singles and enters the postseason with four straight singles wins. He also teamed with Braxton Bates to win a team best 12 doubles matches this season and finish 4-1 in Summit League doubles.

Saletovic earned Summit League Player of the Week honors on March 22 and tied Koncz with 12 singles wins. He finished 4-1 in Summit League play and was 9-3 at the No. 3 singles position for the Golden Eagles. A native of Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Saletovic split time at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles earning nine wins to finish the regular season.
