AUSTIN, Texas –  A pair of Golden Eagles competed Thursday as the Oral Roberts track and field teams began action at the NCAA West Preliminary Meet, hosted by the University of Texas.

News & Notes
- Omeiza Akerele narrowly missed qualifying for the next round in the 400m dash as the junior ran 47.00 to finish 28th. Akerele was sandwiched between runners from Nebraska and Iowa, and was 0.17 seconds away from an at-large bid to the next round.

- Akerele moved up 15 spots in the standings after entering the meet with the 43rd fastest time in the west region.

- Freshman Mercy Abire, the lone female competitor for the Golden Eagles, earned a mark of 6.11m (20-0.5) on her second attempt to finish 22nd overall.

- Abire entered the meet 36th in the region and moved up 14 spots with her performance on Thursday.

Up Next
Akerele will be back in action alongside D'Khari Hicks in the 200m dash, while Jaden Purnell will compete in the men's triple jump.
