2016-17 #TopORUMoments; #2-Purnell Jumps to All-America Status

TULSA, Okla. – Not only did sophomore Jaden Purnell put together a remarkable postseason run to earn himself All-America honors, he kept alive a pair of impressive program streaks as well after a 19th place finish at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Purnell was ORU's leader in both the long jump and triple jump events this year, and used a season-best 15.80m (51-10) mark in the NCAA West Preliminary Meet to finish 12th overall and earn the last qualifying spot in the NCAA Championships. With his qualification, Purnell continued ORU's streak of having at least one student-athlete qualify for the NCAA Championships every year since 1996.

Purnell also kept ORU track's streak of All-Americans alive, a streak that dates back to the 2002 season. During that span of 15 years, ORU has had a total of 42 indoor and outdoor All-Americans.

During the regular season, Purnell was the Summit League indoor triple jump champion and had four event championships and 16 top five finishes this season.
