TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team soared past Tulsa 76-68 Thursday evening in the Mabee Center to win its third straight PSO Mayor's Cup.
The Golden Eagles started off fast in the first quarter. Jordan Gilbert scored the first points for ORU when she scored the game's opening layup. The Golden Eagles took a 7-0 lead before Tulsa scored their first bucket almost two minutes in. The Golden Hurricane fought their way back and at the end of the first quarter ORU had a 17-16 lead. ORU shot 40 percent in the first quarter and held Tulsa to a 38.9 percent shooting percentage.
The Golden Eagles scored 15 points in the second quarter while shooting 37.5 percent from the field. Both teams exchanged buckets, but ORU held the lead going in to halftime by a score of 32-29.
ORU got hot in the third quarter. The team went 11-13 from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc. Lakota Beatty made both three-point buckets and went 3-3 overall. Kaylan Mayberry and Maria Martianez each went 3-3 from the field as well. ORU fell behind Tulsa by three points, but then went on a 17-7 run and led Golden Hurricane 59-50 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter ORU went ahead by 13 points, but Tulsa brought the game back to within eight. Tulsa out-shot ORU in the fourth quarter and held the Golden Eagles to a 30 percent and scored only 17 points. ORU shot 14 free throws in the fourth quarter and went 11-14.
After the first media timeout in the third quarter ORU went on a 17-7 run and went 11-13 from the field and 2-2 from three point range.
Tulsa: Erika Wakefield scored 19 points and two total rebounds.

The Golden Eagles will travel to play Big 12 opponent Kansas inside Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday, November 23 at 6 p.m. Last season, the Golden Eagles beat Kansas 70-63 in Lawrence, Kansas.
