Second Half Penalty Kick Pushes North Texas Past ORU, 1-0

DENTON, Texas - A North Texas penalty kick late in the second half of action sealed the victory for the Mean Green Friday night in Denton, Texas. UNT improved to 8-1-0 overall while ORU (4-2-2) dropped just its second match of the season. 

The Golden Eagles defense held steady throughout, holding the Mean Green to just three first half shots. ORU came out and put two shots up in the first five minutes but neither offense was able to get rhythm during the first half. 

North Texas came out firing though in the second half of play, putting up 12 shots and scoring on a PK in the 74th minute after a foul was called inside the box. 

Turning Point
Karla Pineda scored the lone goal of the match for the Mean Green in the 74th minute on a PK for her fifth goal of the season.

  • ORU outshot UNT in the first half 5-3, but the Mean Green finished the game with a 15-8 advantage. 
  • Alexis Holden took a team-high seven shots for UNT on the night while Anna Flobeck put up four attempts. 
  • No Golden Eagles attempted more than one attempt on goal.
