After starting the first game of the season on defense, Pillay moved into the forward position and did not let up. The Johannesburg, South Africa native, scored goals in the third minute and sixth minute, while assisting a goal in the 11th minute.
Jordan Langebartels found the back of the net for the second consecutive game, as the senior now has scored in six of the last nine games she's played dating back to last season.
The starting defensive line of Ellie Chapple, Brooklyn Eardley, Mackenzi Kirschner, Shannon Smith and keeper Allison Austin held the Lady Lions in check forcing UAPB to be offisides twice within the first 17 minutes.
A wave of subs in the 25th minute, led by Martha Helsee, entered the field continued to dominate the Lady Lions. Helsee, a Tulsa native, found her first scoring opportunity in the 26th minute before finally finding the back of the net in the 39th minute off a Golden Eagles missed penalty kick.
One goal wasn't enough for Helsee. The sophomore capitalized on another scoring opportunity minutes before half time off an assist by Brianna McGowan.
The second half was a replay of the first; domination by ORU. Five different Golden Eagles combined for nine shot attempts in the first ten minutes before Pillay found the target in the 59th minute, her third goal of the match completing the hat trick.
With a deeper bench, the Golden Eagles were able to outlast the Lady Lions ending the night with a 7-0 victory.
- 32 Golden Eagles saw action, including seven true freshmen.
- Drishana Pillay's seven points is tied for the second most in ORU single-match history equaling Jennifer Abernathy's performance on Sept. 8, 2013, Jessica Kellogg owns the record when she recorded eight points on Sept. 25, 2005.
- The Golden Eagles set an all-time ORU team game record with 46 shots, ten more than the previous record set against Rogers State (9/11/13) and IUPUI (9/30/06).
"Playing forward you have to stick to the plan and know your next move," said junior Drishana Pillay. "When playing a team like that (UAPB) you have to make sure that your tempo remains the same and you don't fall behind or forget about what you learned in training."
"First of all I want to give credit to Arkansas Pine Bluff, I thought their girls continued to play hard and work hard," said head coach Roger Bush. "When it became 4-0 early on, we had a message that we don't play the score of the game. We've got something that we want to achieve and that objective is to grow from the game. I thought our girls did a good job of that, I do think there are some things that we'll take away from the game where we certainly could've been better."
"Drish is a really great all-around player," Bush said. "What was most awesome was before the game when I asked Drish if she would play a different role, not her normal role, she took it with a great attitude and joyful heart…She's just a great leader, great teammate and I think that is really the focus."
