Golden Eagles Travel to Texas to Battle Roadrunners

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team will hit the road to play at the University of Texas – San Antonio, Friday, Sept. 13, at 7:00 p.m.

Head coach Derek Pittman is in just his second season leading UTSA, Pittman led the Roadrunners to a 6-9-2 record in 2018. UTSA is 3-2-0 on the 2019 season with victories over Louisiana-Lafayette (3-0), Grand Canyon (4-0) and Cleveland State (3-0), while suffering losses to Texas State (1-0) and South Florida (5-0). Sophomore forward Ellis Patterson leads UTSA with three goals and is registering a .375 shooting percentage. Patterson, along with Lexi Bolton and Isa Hernandez each have recorded six points in five games.


The Golden Eagles defeated Grambling State, 5-0, on Sept. 8, to snap a three match losing streak. Junior McKenzie Edwards paced ORU tallying a five-point performance as she netted two goals and recorded one assist. Fellow teammates Shayla Padilla, Martha Helsee and Mia Kitterman each added goals of their own.


Drishana Pillay and Edwards are two of only three athletes to record five points in a match in The Summit League in 2019. Pillay collected seven points on Aug. 24, when she scored three goals and one assist in a 7-0 victory over UAPB. Mara Yapello of North Dakota recorded a five-point performance in an 8-0 victory over Minot State.


20 different Golden Eagles have recorded a start in 2019, while Shannon Smith, Pillay, Padilla, Jordan Langebartels, Kirschner, Eadley and Austin have each recorded 5-plus starts. Most notably, Paige Venrick, Helsee and Edwards each heard their name called in the starting XI against Grambling State.


Head Coach Roger Bush is back for his seventh season leading the Golden Eagles, after six seasons Bush has a 58-56-9 record at ORU. Student-athletes under Bush have earned 26 all-conference honors, 13 player of the week awards and two have earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Bush was named the 2016 Summit League Women's Coach of the Year.


A year after finishing 3-5-0 in league play, the Golden Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the 2019 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll. Senior midfielder Jordan Langenbartels was one of 13 athletes named to the The Summit League Players to Watch List, Langenbartels led the Golden Eagles with career-highs in goals (7) and points (18) despite only appearing in 15 of 20 matches.
