TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team scored five second half goals to put away the Chicago State Cougars in an 8-1 victory, Friday night at the Case Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles came out of the first whistle in attack mode recording two shots and two corner kicks within the first 10 minutes of the match. Shortly after, fellow teammate Drishana Pillay recorded her team leading fifth goal of the season after receiving a beautiful long ball from Shannon Smith that Pillay played off her chest and blasted it past the Cougar keeper to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.
Just a few minutes after being substituted in, senior midfielder Marina Solberg found herself in on the scoring action. A Shayla Padilla steal eventually led to Solberg finding the back of the net in the 34th minute off assists from Anna Gornell and Kelli Keller.
The Golden Eagles led the Cougars, 3-1, after the first 45 minutes of play. ORU recorded eight shots on goal in 16 attempts.
Oral Roberts came out of the second half all gas and no brakes in a relentless attack that began in the 53rd minute off an indirect free kick that Keller sent to the back of the net for her first career goal as a Golden Eagle.
ORU would strike two more times before the final whistle blew as Martha Helsee recorded her fourth goal of the campaign in the 73rd minute, followed by Padilla scoring her third goal of the season in the 79th minute.

Sophomore Forward Martha Helsee on…
"It was a good game, we were able to keep the tempo of the match going and after we got our first goal in they just continued to come. It was a really good win for us to get that momentum that we needed to move forward as we head into the next coming matches."
…the team's spirit and mindset:
"The last few games were tough to handle, to tie and lose, but I think tonight showed that we still have a lot of energy and fire to move forward and really show everyone how the Golden Eagles play our game…we are figuring our game and finding our stride, being able to take that into conference will be key for us."
The Oral Roberts women's soccer team will play host to the Kansas City Roos on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
