ORU Drops Weather Delayed Match, 1-0, to SDSU

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to South Dakota State Thursday night at the Case Soccer Complex.


In a match that took nearly four and a half hours, including a two and a half hour lightning delay, the Golden Eagles came up short as Leah Manuleleua of South Dakota found the back of the net in the 68th minute.


Both teams battled blistering winds, wet field conditions and by the end of the night 45-degree weather.


The Golden Eagles saw one of its first big scoring opportunities as Kelli Keller took a free kick from 25-yards out and laced it right on target, before two-time Summit League keeper of the year Maggie Smither was there for the save.


Oral Roberts recorded five shots in the first half, including three shots on goal from Keller.


Allison Austin held off a Jackrabbit attack with two crucial saves as both teams ended the first 45-minutes of action tied at 0-0.


Just over ten minutes of play in the second half mother nature struck delaying the match multiple times that totaled nearly two and a half hours in lightning delay. Coming out of the delay, the Jackrabbits jumped on the board first as Karlee Manding found Manuleleua streaking down the right side who found the back of the net in the 68th minute.


In the final minutes of regulation, Samantha See gave the Golden Eagles a glimpse of hope as she fired shots at the Jackrabbit keeper, before being denied by Smither.


- Keeper Allison Austin, defenders Brooklyn Eardley and Gabrille Abbey each played the full-time for the third consecutive match.
- Kelli Keller recorded three shots, the fourth time she has done so in a match this season.
- The Golden Eagles are now 0-6-1 in the gold kits.
