ORU Opens Fall at NSU Invite

The Oral Roberts University women's tennis team opened their 2014 fall campaign over the weekend at the NSU Fall Invite at Bixby High School. ORU spent the weekend competing against Northeastern State.

The Riverhawks won 13 of the 14 completed matches, with ORU earning their lone win in the first round of singles play, when Haley Martin defeated Kristina Savchenkov, 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 10-8.

The rest of round 1 singles went to NSU. Patricia Husakova swept Andrada Gordan, 6-2, 6-0, and Valerila Efimenko took down Ximena Puentes, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Brenda Mercado Jove fell to Molly Worden, 6-0, 6-0, and Nika Munoz lost to Daria Panferova, 6-0, 6-0.

NSU won all five matches of the second singles round. Gordan lost to Savchenkov, 6-2, 6-3, and Martin fell to Husakova, 6-4, 6-4. Munox was dropped by Efimenko, 6-1, 6-3, and Worden clipped Puentes, 7-6 (9-7), 6-0. The last match went to Panferova, 6-1, 6-2, over Jove.

In the first doubles round, the Riverhawks won both matches. Savchenkov and Efimenko doubled up Martin and Puentes, 8-4, and Gordan teamed with Jove for an 8-2 loss to Husakova and Panferova.

The second doubles round also went to NSU. Savchenkov and Efimenko took an 8-2 win over Gordan and Jove, while Husakova and Panferova beat Martin and Puentes, 8-2.

The Golden Eagles are next on the court for the ORU Invitational at Union High School, which begins on October 4.
