Golden Eagles Picked Sixth in Summit League Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Oral Roberts University women's tennis team was tabbed to finish sixth in the Summit League Preseason Poll voted on by league coaches and released Thursday.

The Golden Eagles return to the Summit League under third year head coach Beverly Dawson. ORU claimed nine tournament championships and seven regular season titles during its previous stint in the league from 1998-2012.

Defending champion Denver was picked as the favorite in 2015 receiving seven first place votes as head coaches could not vote for their own team. The Pioneers enter the season ranked No. 65 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll after claiming both the regular season and tournament titles in their first season in the league.

Denver received seven-of-eight first-place votes for a total of 49 points. Fort Wayne, the 2014 tournament runner-up, claimed the remaining first-place vote and finished second with 41 points. South Dakota State (33) and South Dakota (27) finished third and fourth, ahead of a tightly-packed group comprised of Omaha (23), Oral Roberts (22), and IUPUI (21). Western Illinois (6) rounded out the poll.

ORU opens the season Wednesday, January 14, when the Golden Eagles host Wyoming at the Shadow Mountain Tennis Club at noon.
