Summit League Announces 2016 Preseason Poll

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Oral Roberts University women's tennis team was picked to finish fifth in The Summit League Preseason Poll released Wednesday by the league office.

Two-time defending champion Denver was picked as the favorite in 2016 after winning both the regular season and tournament titles in the Pioneers first two season in the league. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

South Dakota was picked second followed by 2015 tournament runner-up South Dakota State which earned on first-place vote. IUPUI was picked second with 21 points followed by the Golden Eagles in fifth as Omaha and Western Illinois rounded out the poll sixth and seventh respectively.

ORU finished the season 7-13 and 2-5 in The Summit League standings which was highlighted by an upset victory over nationally ranked South Dakota.

The Golden Eagles open the regular season at the Hurricane Invitational this weekend at the Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.

The 2016 Summit League Championship will be hosted by Omaha in a four-team single-elimination format, April 29-30.
