LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 2014 Oral Roberts University volleyball team was honored with the Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Wednesday by the organization.
ORU was one of 752 teams to receive the award across all levels of scholastic volleyball, helping the AVCA break their all-time record for a third straight year.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Golden Eagle volleyball team lived up to the ORU athletic mantra of "Building Whole Person Champions" by posting a cumulative GPA of 3.43 for the 2014-15 academic year. Eleven student-athletes earned Summit League Academic Honor Roll accolades as Maggie DiPronio, Nika Mostahinic, Sara Pope, McKenna Qualls, Sofia Redden and Lauren Winslow were all named Summit League Distinguished Scholar recipients.
The 2015 ORU volleyball team opens the season August 28 against Ole Miss at the Magnolia Invitational in Oxford, Miss.
