TULSA, Okla. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has recognized the Oral Roberts volleyball program's success in the classroom by honoring the Golden Eagles with a 2015-16 Team Academic Award, the organization announced on Monday.
ORU was one of 762 teams to receive the award across all levels of scholastic volleyball, helping the AVCA break their all-time record for a third straight year.
The Golden Eagle volleyball team lived up to the ORU athletic mantra of "Building Whole Person Champions" as Kari Anderson, Bria Bergan, Lucija Bojanjac, Karyn Chrisman, Maggie Dipronio and Laura Milos earned Summit League Academic Honor Roll. Nika Mostahinic, Jovana Poljasevic, Rachel Provost, Tori Roe and Sadie Schaffner earned Distinguished Scholar honors.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Golden Eagles open their season August 26 at Oklahoma during the Nike Invitational in Norman, Okla.
