Golden Eagles Split Saturday at Texas Tech Invitational; Milos Named to All-Tournament Team

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Oral Roberts volleyball team split its final day of action at the Texas Tech Invitational Saturday in Lubbock. The Golden Eagles were able to pick up a sweep over Abilene Christian (25-20, 25-16, 25-18), but dropped its match to Texas Tech in the nightcap, 3-1 (25-19, 25-12, 20-25, 25-16).

Junior Laura Milos garnered her third All-Tournament Team selection of the season after leading the way for the Golden Eagles over the weekend. The outside hitter came into the weekend leading the nation in kills, kills per set and aces. She finished the the three matches with 69 kills and 14 aces.  

In the opener of the day, ORU was able to steadily attack the Wildcats )1-10) defense with great success. As a squad the Golden Eagles hit .207 while the Oral Roberts defense held ACU to a .000 attack percentage. 

Milos led all players with 15 kills while Shelby Cox and Katarina Mikulic each finished with six. Lucija Bojanjac assisted on 32 plays for ORU. 

In the final match of the tournament, Texas Tech increased its winning streak to nine matches after finishing off ORU in a four-set win. The Golden Eagles led by as many as five points in the first set, but a late run by the Red Raiders gave TTU the win. Texas Tech carried over its momentum into the second set, cruising 25-12, into intermission. 

ORU made the adjustments and led from start to finish in the third set, and pushed its lead to as many as five points before TTU called a timeout late to regroup. Red Raiders' outside hitter Chandler Atwood picked up a kill to cut the deficit to just three points, but ORU closed out the set with three-straight points for the win.

The Texas Tech offense was too much to handle in the fourth and final set as Tony Graystone's squad jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Two players recorded double-digit kills for the Red Raiders as the team hit for a .300 percentage on the night.

  • Shelby Cox recorded 32 kills and 12 total blocks in three matches. 
  • Lucija Bojanjac assisted on 123 points during the Invitational.

  • As a team, ORU hit .173 over the course of the tournament, holding opponents to .162.

Up Next
The Golden Eagles will return to Tulsa next weekend, but not to the Aerobics Center. The team will travel across town to take part in the Tulsa Invitational Friday and Saturday. They face host Tulsa Friday night to kick things off.
