Crowd Spurs Golden Eagles to Rally Past Mastodons

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team fed off its home crowd to rally past Fort Wayne in four sets (17-25, 25-21, 33-31, 25-12) in The Summit League opener Friday night at the Aerobics Center.

After falling behind 20-14 in the pivotal third set, the Golden Eagles settled down and chipped away at the deficit. Bria Bergman served ORU on a 4-0 run capped by back-to-back kills from Lara Picht whipping the crowd into a frenzy by evening the score, 22-22, before closing the set on its fifth set point.

The home side rode that momentum into a dominating effort in set four. ORU hit a blistering .520 in the final set recording 14 kills to just one error in securing the home victory and taking down the Mastodons for the sixth-consecutive time.

Inside the Box Score

  • Laura Milos overcame a slow start to finish with a match-high 24 kills and tallied nine digs.
  • Lucija Bojanjac and Bergman each totaled 20 or more assists with 26 and 25, respectively. Bergman added the first double-double of her tenure matching a career-best 10 digs, while Tori Roe paced ORU with 14 digs.
  • CeCe Madison came through clutch in the win totaling 12 kills on 28 swings, including 10 kills and only one error in the final two sets. Picht posted her most efficient outing with 10 kills on 17 swings, reaching double figures for the first time this season, closing the match with a .588 hitting percentage.
  • ORU and Fort Wayne reversed offensive numbers as the match wore on with the Golden Eagles out-hitting the Mastodons .300 to .253 on the night, aided by a .520 to .037 margin in the final set.
  • The third set featured 18 tie scores and eight lead changes with both sides having multiple chances to close the set.
  • The Mastodons had three players in double-figure kills led by 15 from Nicole Rightnowar.
