TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts head volleyball coach Sheera Sirola announced the addition of Brian Magbitang to the coaching staff as an assistant heading into the 2018 season.
"Brian is a great addition to our staff," Sirola said. "He has great experience at the collegiate and club levels and the drive to help push our program toward our goals. I'm excited to have him join us here at ORU."
Magbitang joins the Golden Eagles after spending six years at Wichita State, including the last two as a graduate assistant. While there, the Shockers made five NCAA Championship appearances, reaching the program's first-ever NCAA Sweet 16, with six AVCA All-American players. He assisted in the initiation and execution of drills, applied a new camera system for Volleymetrics analytics and assisted in fundraising efforts and community outreach.
"I am incredibly excited and privileged to be the new assistant volleyball coach at Oral Roberts," Magbitang said. "I want to thank athletic director Mike Carter, Scott Williams and Rhonda Fowler for their support and confidence that I will be able to help Coach Sirola led the Golden Eagles to more successful seasons."
He also has worked extensively on the club circuit in Wichita, Kansas, coaching the Shockwave Volleyball Academy and No Coast Beach Volleyball Club since 2012. Magbitang designed practice plans and implemented skill development programs for all age groups.
Prior to his work on the volleyball court, he spent eight years in the United States Air Force serving two tours of duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. As an electrical and environmental systems mechanic, he earned two Air Force Achievement medals and an accelerated promotion given to less than five percent of all USAF members. With the Air Force, Magbitang was responsible for testing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintenance of assigned aircraft, primarily the KC-135. He also was a hands-on supervisor and resource manager in developing new Airman training programs.
Magbitang graduated from Wichita State with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and also finished a master's degree in 2018.
