Three Double-Doubles for #ORUVB in Wednesday Loss

TULSA, Okla. – In a match featuring 47 tie scores and 18 total lead changes, the Oral Roberts volleyball team could not hold off visiting Tulsa Wednesday night at the Aerobics Center falling in four sets (25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 25-27). Three different players recorded a double-double for the Golden Eagles in the final contest of a six-match homestand.


A block from Bri Greenlee and Sylvia Lawson capped a 5-0 run for ORU in the opening set helping the home side jump to an early one-set advantage. The Golden Hurricane evened the match by scoring the final six points of set two following a 19-19 tie and took the lead by capitalizing on a late rally posting five of the last six points of the third stanza.


CeCe Madison registered kills on back-to-back match points against in the fourth frame to even the score, 25-25, but it was Tulsa that closed out the win scoring the final two points, despite the Golden Eagles hitting at a .457 clip in the last set.


Inside the Box Score

  • Madison took advantage of 43 swings to post 20 kills, her third time reaching 20 or more kills this season, while finishing with a double-double behind 13 digs.
  • Sarah Thiessen was all over the court for the Golden Eagles defense picking up 25 digs, including an impressive 10 in the second set alone.
  • Lawson tallied a 45-assist, 14-dig double-double and chipped in four kills and two block assists.
  • Laura Shoopman joined Madison in double figures putting away 10 kills and added 15 digs for the double-double effort.
  • Greenlee led the ORU defense with a solo block and four block assists and combined with Taylan Nero for seven kills apiece as both hit above .300 in the contest.

The Golden Eagles hit the road for three matches over the weekend in Conway, Arkansas, at the UCA Invitational. ORU opens the event against Little Rock Friday afternoon with first serve scheduled for 4 p.m.
