TULSA, Okla. – With the start of Summit League action this week, the Oral Roberts volleyball team heads to South Dakota to battle the Coyotes Friday night at 7 p.m. in the first conference match for both teams.

•ORU turns to the start of Summit League play to reverse its recent course, but will face the top three teams in a five-day stretch starting on the road at defending conference tournament champion, South Dakota. The Golden Eagles entered the 2019 campaign picked fourth in The Summit League standings returning 81 percent of total kills from eight letter winners.

CeCe Madison leads the ORU offense with 199 kills, ranking 14th in the nation, averaging 3.90 kills per set. The senior has recorded a double-double in nine of her last 10 outings and posted 20 or more kills five times this season.

•Libero Sarah Thiessen has helped ORU to the seventh-most digs in the NCAA as the Tulsa, Oklahoma, native leads the team with 208 digs averaging 4.08 per set, including a career-best 32 twice this year.

•Senior Bri Greenlee posted a career-best 109 total blocks in 2018 and leads the Golden Eagles with 31 block assists this year. She has jumped to eighth in ORU history passing former teammate Shelby Cox.

•A pair of freshmen continue to make an impact in the Golden Eagles lineup as setter Sylvia Lawson is averaging 9.18 assists per set, while Laura Shoopman has topped the team in kills three times, including a season-high 21 versus Louisiana Tech in her ORU debut.

•The Golden Eagles and Coyotes meet for the 14th time in the all-time season series with USD holding a 9-4 edge. ORU has dropped its last two matches in the series, both in 2018, and holds a 1-5 record in matches played in Vermillion, South Dakota.

•South Dakota is off to one of its best starts in program history winning 11 of its first 12 contests, including eight straight, heading into The Summit League opener. The Coyotes have claimed six of the eight total conference player of the week awards in 2019 from five different players.

•Head Coach Sheera Sirola, ORU's all-time winningest coach, added five newcomers to the roster for 2019, including four freshmen. Kalli Caddell is the lone junior college transfer, while Mackenzie Edwards, Sakira LaCour, Laura Shoopman and Jeslyn Spencer all are in their first collegiate season.

•ORU has three players to replace in the lineup with the graduation of libero Tori Roe, setter Bria Bergman and outside hitter Lara Picht. Roe was the fourth player in ORU history to reach the 1,500-dig milestone, while Bergman totaled 9.65 assists per set and Picht added 2.30 kills per set.

•The Golden Eagles have reached the conference tournament six of the last seven seasons and will try to utilize 13 home matches to bounce back from only their ninth losing season in program history. It is one of the most challenge schedules to date as more than a third of ORU's slate is against a team that reached the postseason in 2018.
