TULSA, Okla. – After winning its last two matches at home, the Oral Roberts volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Summit League matches Oct. 11 and 13. The Golden Eagles play at Purdue Fort Wayne for the final time as conference members Friday night at 6 p.m. (CT) before a visit to Western Illinois Sunday at 2 p.m.
•ORU won its second-straight match Sunday afternoon to even its Summit League record at 2-2 and move into a tie for third place in the standings. The Golden Eagles entered the 2019 campaign picked fourth in The Summit League preseason poll returning 81 percent of total kills from eight letter winners.
•Madison leads the ORU offense with a league-best 289 kills, ranking 10th in the nation, while averaging 3.91 kills per set. The senior has recorded a double-double 15 times and posted 20 or more kills seven times this season, including Tuesday against Omaha.
•Libero Sarah Thiessen has helped ORU to the eighth-most digs in the NCAA as the Tulsa, Oklahoma, native is 28th in the country with 314 digs averaging 4.24 per set, including a career-best 32 twice this year.
•Senior Bri Greenlee posted a career-best 109 total blocks in 2018 and leads the Golden Eagles with 53 total blocks this year. With three block assists Sunday, she jumped to seventh in ORU history passing Joanita Souza (2005-08).
•A pair of freshmen continue to make an impact in the Golden Eagles lineup as setter Sylvia Lawson is averaging 9.07 assists per set, while Laura Shoopman has topped the team in kills four times, including a season-high 21 versus Louisiana Tech in her ORU debut.
•The Golden Eagles hold a 17-7 record against the Mastodons in the all-time series winning nine straight. ORU and Western Illinois have played 44 times dating back to 1996 with ORU claiming wins in 18-straight for a 39-5 record.
•Purdue Fort Wayne has won six of its last seven matches to sit in second place in the league standings. Katie Crows leads the Mastodons with 3.13 kills per set and was offensive player of the week Sept. 24, while Rachael Crucis paces the defense at 4.61 digs per set.
•The Leathernecks have dropped 10 of their last 11 outings, but picked up a five-set win over South Dakota State. WIU has three players averaging at least two kills per set and getting 3.65 digs per set from Gabby DePersio.
•Head Coach Sheera Sirola, ORU's all-time winningest coach broke The Summit League career wins record against SDSU Oct. 6. She added five newcomers to the roster for 2019, including four freshmen. Kalli Caddell is the lone junior college transfer, while Mackenzie Edwards, Sakira LaCour, Laura Shoopman and Jeslyn Spencer all are in their first collegiate season.
•ORU has three players to replace with libero Tori Roe, setter Bria Bergman and outside hitter Lara Picht graduating. Roe was the fourth player in ORU history to reach the 1,500-dig milestone, while Bergman totaled 9.65 assists per set and Picht added 2.30 kills per set.
•The Golden Eagles have reached the conference tournament six of the last seven seasons and will try to utilize 13 home matches to bounce back from only their ninth losing season in program history. It is one of the most challenge schedules to date as more than a third of ORU's slate is against a team that reached the postseason in 2018.
