Tulsa, Okla.
-- Oklahoma State University claimed the championship of the
2002 Mazzio's Oklahoma Shootout with a 3-1 victory over the
University of Tulsa Sunday night at the ORU Soccer Complex. After
both the Cowgirls and the Oklahoma Sooners finished the tournament
udefeated, it was OSU's goal differential of plus four that gave
them the tournament title.
A Kim Graves goal in the 69th minute proved to be the game-winner
for the Cowgirls (2-0), who outshot Tulsa 17-9 on the evening.
Krista Dedmon and Carla Dolomont also scored for OSU. The Golden
Hurricane (0-2) finally found the back of the net in the 82nd
minute with a goal by Holly Lorman.
Oklahoma (2-0) found themselves down 1-0 just 4:28 in the night's
second game, but responded with a pair of first-half goals to
defeat Oral Roberts, 2-1. The Golden Eagles (0-2) jump out to their
early lead with a goal by Jessica Kellog, but the Sooners' Becky
Nelson goal in the 20th minute tied the game at one. Shannon Wing
then finished off the night's scoring at the 26:57 mark to beat
ORU.
The Golden Eagles will return to action this Friday as they host
Portland State at 7:00 p.m. at the ORU Soccer Complex.
