-- The Oral Robert's University women's soccer team scored three
times in second half to come away with a victory over Western
Illinois Monday afternoon at Macomb, Illinois. After the first half
produced a socreless tie, the Golden Eagles (2-3, 1-0) came to life
in the second and pulled out a 3-1 win over Western (0-4-1, 0-1) in
both team's first Mid-Continent Conference match of the season.
Martha Owens (Calremore, Okla.) and Nicole Bucelluni (Tulsa, Okla.)
both registered their first goals of the season for ORU, while
Jessica Kellog (Tulsa, Okla.) added her team-leading fourth goal of
the year.
The Golden Eagles finally got on the board at the game's 62:38
mark, as Martha Owens beat Western goalkeeper Carey Cowhey on a
penatly kick for a 1-0 ORU lead. Western scored the equalizer on a
Casey Cox penalty kick just 36 seconds later.
Jessica Kellog scored the game-winning goal as she found the back
of the net from eight yards out in the game's 69th minute. Kellog's
goal was part of ORU's 16-11 shot advantage on the day. The Golden
Eagles also limited Western to just one corner kick in the
game.
Nicole Bucelluni put the game out of reach at the 80:22 mark,
scoring a goal in her first collegiate game. Bucelluni had sat out
ORU's first four matches due to a severe ankle sprain.
Golden Eagle goalkeeper Kellie Fenton (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
recorded three saves in the match as she registered her second win
of the season.
ORU will remain on the road this weekend for a pair of
non-conference contests. The Golden Eagles travel to Bowling Green,
Kentucky as they face off against the Hilltoppers of Western
Kentucky at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night. The team will then take on
Southeast Missouri State at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in Cape Girardeau,
Mo.
The Golden Eagles will once again be in action at home on Friday,
September 27, as they take on Southwest Missouri State at the ORU
Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m.
