Okla. �€" Gentry Detter (Claremore,
Okla.) scored on a free kick in the 32nd minute as Oral
Roberts University women�€™s soccer team beat
Missouri State, 1-0, giving head coach Kyle Cussen his
100th win with the Golden Eagles. The match was held
Wednesday night at the ORU Soccer Complex.
ORU
(3-7-3, 0-2-2) picked up a huge win as they head into two crucial
conference games, starting this Saturday against Oakland and then
next Friday against Centenary.
Detter�€™s third goal of the year tied her for
the team-lead but more importantly kept ORU undefeated at home. The
Golden Eagles are now 3-0-3 at the ORU Soccer Complex. Detter
scored the game-winner on a free kick at 31:16 from about 25 yards
out. The senior defender placed it perfectly in the top right
corner of the net, past the outstretched MSU goalkeeper.
ORU out
shot Missouri State 8-5 in the first frame and held a 4-2 edge on
corner kicks.
Missouri State did not back down as they looked to tie the game in
the second half but ORU�€™s keeper Mandy
Evans (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) continued to make big saves
behind the solid all-around defensive effort tonight from the
Golden Eagles.
Evans
finished with seven saves and earned her first complete shutout of
the year. She is now 2-1-0.
ORU�€™s frontline attacked Missouri State all
night as freshman forward Marissa
Ranberger (Golden, Colo.) had four shots with
three of them on-goal. Junior Emily Gagnon (Broken
Arrow, Okla.) also had four shots with one on-goal.
In all
the Golden Eagles had 13 shots and five corner kicks while Missouri
State fired off 17 shots.
With
the loss Missouri State dropped to 9-6-1.
ORU
returns to action on Saturday hosting pre-season Mid-Con favorite
Oakland at a 7:00 p.m. start time. Oakland is 4-9-0 and 1-1-0 in
conference action.
