SHREVEPORT, La. Oral Roberts
University used goals from Tamara Waller (Sapulpa,
Okla.) and Emily Gagnon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) en
route to a 3-0 defeat of Centenary, in Mid-Continent Conference
action, on Friday night at Mayo Field.
The first half was scoreless as
both teams had six shots a piece. ORU (4-8-3, 1-3-2) had four shots
on goal but could not find the back of the net as Centenary's
goalkeeper Ali Hilsher had four stops.
Gagnon scored the game-winner at
the 51:38 mark on a shot from the top of the box. Gagnon's goal,
which was her fourth of the year, was assisted by Gentry
Detter (Claremore, Okla.).
Waller added another tally for the
Golden Eagles in the 69th minute. The senior midfielder scored her
fourth goal of the year after a pass from Gagnon.
ORU added another insurance goal at
the 85:18 mark with Gagnon finding the back of the net for the
second time. Her goal was unassisted as she beat Centenary's
Hilsher from 30 yards out.
In all, Gagnon had a huge night
with five points in ORU's last conference game of the year.
ORU edged Centenary in shots,
13-11, but Centenary held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
ORU's goalkeeper Mandy
Evans (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) improved to 3-2-0 on the year.
The senior had two saves in her second shut out of the year.
Centenary dropped to 4-10-2, 0-4-1
on the year.
ORU returns to action on Sunday
night, hosting nationally-ranked Oklahoma State. OSU is ranked in
the top 15 in all four major soccer polls and has their highest
ranking (#10) by NSCAA. The match is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
at the ORU Soccer Complex.
