TULSA, Okla. - Oral
Roberts women's soccer team could not find the back of the net as
they lost 3-0 to cross-town rival Tulsa University in front of a
crowded Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Golden
Hurricane netted two goals within 46 seconds each other at the 16
minute mark to deflate the ORU attack. Jennifer Kacergis slid it
past goalkeeper Stef Gurley (Hurst, Texas) from
about six feet out. Tulsa did not stop there when Katie Ward added
another tally for TU scoring from just outside of the box to find
the left corner of the net. Sarah Greene was credited with both of
the assists.
In the first half
Tulsa recorded eight shots, including six of those on goal, while
ORU had five shots on goal with Tulsa's keeper Meredith Hart having
one save.
ORU picked up the
pace in the second half and had several chances to get on the board
but TU's Hart came through. At the 17:40 mark Marrisa
Ranberger (Golden, Colo.) was taken down in the box,
giving ORU a penalty kick. Hart guessed right and blocked the free
try from Gentry Detter (Claremore, Okla.) to keep
the match at 2-0.
It did not stop
there for the Golden Eagle's as they kept fighting. Emily
Gagnon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) had two quality chances, with
Hart making one save, and then she had a header that just slipped
wide of the net.
Despite ORU
controlling play in the latter half of the second period, Tulsa
converted on one of their chances with Hannah Taylor scoring off a
free kick from Emily Mcelrath.
ORU countered in
the second half peppering TU's Hart with 12 shots, with seven of
them saved by the keeper. For the game each team had 17 shots with
TU having 10 shots on goal to ORU's seven.
With the loss ORU
drops to 1-1-0 on the year while Tulsa improves to 2-1-0.
